Amelia Flower: hump day happiness

hdh

Happy hump day friends! I am such a big fan of today’s artist’s work. I first found Amelia Flower’s lovely work on Etsy and bought her “I like you more than all my favourite food” for my P.I.C on our 9th anniversary. Along with her food card, I also sneaked a few other cards into my shopping basket including her Cyclist card which is perfect for any of your peloton pals! I really do hope you fall in love with her work too. Here is Amelia to tell you a little bit more about what she does:

  1. Who are you and what do you do?

unnamed

I am Amelia Flower, and I am a full-time illustrator and designer. I run a greetings card business, and I also work as a freelance illustrator.

  1. How/where/why did Amelia Flower begin?

Like most creative people, I have always been artistic and dreamed of ‘drawing for a living’. I spent two years working in creative roles for two different large companies, after graduating from University. Every evening and weekend, I was working on my own work and setting up my business, and now I am working full-time on my own illustration, which is great! I sold my first ever card last Summer at a local craft fair, and I could have hugged the lady who bought it, and it has progressed fairly rapidly from there. My cards are now available in Liberty of London, and I was dancing around my house for at least week when I received the order!

  1. What inspires your designs?

I like to people-watch, I find it to be the most inspiring way to gather new ideas. I’ll sit in a window of a café and sketch the people outside. Usually, a great outfit or personality will inspire an illustration. As you can tell, I love to draw people.

  1. Who inspires you?

unnamed (1)

Carrying on from the previous question, everyone inspires me! Especially walking around London, you see so many interesting people. I am also inspired by so many other artists and illustrators, but primarily in seeing where they are in their careers, and what I can do to get to that level. It’s fantastic to see so many successful creative people, and seeing other people succeeding always motivates me to work harder.

  1. What tools do you use to create your designs?

favourite food

A bit of everything. Pens, pencils, and my Wacom tablet. I always start with little sketches, and then move onto the computer.

  1. What is your favourite item to make?

costume

I suppose the only physical product that I currently make is cards. Other than that, I create illustrations. I enjoy everything, I just love to draw, and I’m so happy that it’s something I can do every single day. I love designing cards because it’s a way of sharing my work with the world, it was just a completely natural progression for me!

  1. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

happy girls

I can’t think of any particular advice that I have received, but I always have the notion that you should work hard for what you want. If you’re not enjoying what you are currently doing, work every spare minute, evening, and weekend on what you’d rather be doing, until you can do that instead!
