Anyone who knows me knows that I love piñatas! I was so happy when I stumbled across Pinyatay’s Instagram account. It wasn’t long before I had their rainbow cloud beauty in my study. It never fails to cheer me up. When Pinyatay agreed to take part in hump day happiness I did a little happy dance, so, without further ado, I shall hand you over…
- Who are you and what do you do?
Hi I’m Kate and I run pinyatay making custom piñatas.
- How/where/why did Pinyatay begin?
I love arranging and planning party’s for/with my kids- they have very clear ideas about what they want and always start thinking of their next party as soon as the last one has finished! My son was desperate for a blue Lego brick piñata for his Lego party last year. when I couldn’t find one I made one instead. It worked out pretty well so I made some more then I couldn’t stop, I was hooked. I had been looking for my ‘thing’ for a while and suddenly I had found it!
- What inspires your designs?
So cheesy but my kids are the biggest inspiration. They are always coming up with brilliant ideas and are the reason I started doing this in the first place.
- Who inspires you?
There are so many creative and inspiring people that I have discovered through Instagram. I love that I get to glimpse into their world and chat to on a daily basis. W/o that I find myself searching out are- @leslieannemadeit she makes me smile everyday with her motivational critters and @mariannetaylor has a bright beautiful style that is so recognisable. I am lucky to have some really creative real life friends too! Rachel from @onrshop and Liz from @blossomlondon are two that make me feel inspired and refreshed every time I see them.
- What tools do you use to create your designs?
Good old fashioned scissors and glue!
- What is your favourite item to make?
I love it when customers come to me with a crazy idea and I have to make their vision come to life.
- What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t wait for things to be perfect, just start and things will work out!
What great advice! If you would like to browse Pinyatay’s wonderful selection of piñatas (including a rather naughty vagina shaped one) take a look at the following links:
