BBillustration: hump day happiness

This week’s hump day happiness is provided by BBillustration. I have fallen in love with Bea’s Instagram account. Alongside her beautiful illustrations, she always posts pictures of her lovely chickens (I am desperate to have my own chickens, I think they are amazing). Here’s Bea to tell you a bit more about herself and her chicks…

  1. Who are you and what do you do?

Bea in the studio

I’m Bea, the illustrator/designer/creator behind BBillustration. I work full time as a graphic designer, and part time freelance as an illustrator. I am based in Bath and work from home in my little cottage studio.

  1. How/where/why did BB Illustration begin?

Marlborough BuildingsBBIllustration begun not too long ago when I finally got round to turning my spare room in to a studio. I have always loved drawing, and have always wanted to make it my full time job. I decided to set up my little etsy shop and see where it would take me. I’ve really enjoyed meeting lots of lovely customers and growing my little fan base! I’ve sent my work to all sorts of exciting places over the world and I can’t wait to see how my little business will grow.
  1. What inspires your designs?

My main inspiration is my beautiful surroundings. I am lucky enough to live just outside Bath with breathtaking views and Wiltshire countryside. I love taking inspiration from National trust days out, museums and old antique shops. I have a particular passion for wildlife and an obsession with chickens!
  1. Who inspires you?

Chickens

Luna is one of my biggest inspirations. She’s my cheeky head chicken and you can spot her in lots of my designs! She brightens up everyday with her funny little faces and big flabby tummy. When I lack inspiration elsewhere, I can always count on Luna. (Yes, I am a crazy chicken lady)

  1. What tools do you use to create your designs?

I draw all my illustrations on my wacom tablet straight on to my mac. I used to draw everything by hand until I realised the freedom you get with the wacom and have never looked back. I have never really been one for sketching out ideas beforehand, I usually get an idea in my head and like to just get on with it and see where it ends up.
  1. What is your favourite item to make?

Cards

Designing cards is my favourite thing to do. I love picturing where the cards might end up and for what occasion. I particularly like creating quirky new characters to put a smile on people’s faces.

  1. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I know it’s a cliché, but my main piece of advice is never give up. When I first started my shop, sales were very slow and it was very disheartening. I stuck at it and slowly things started picking up. I still have a long way to go until I am where I want to be but I know with hard work and time it will get there!

Bea’s cards are wonderful! My favourites have to be these. Animals, biscuits and plants, you can’t go wrong really. Bea has a hugh portfolio that includes drawings of animals, food, architecture, maps, landscapes and people. I love Bea’s style and the fact that she is a crazy chicken lady.

Look at how sweet these little dachshunds are! So many of my sausage dog obsessed friends would love this card!
